Summit’s Bridgefield Casualty and Bridgefield Employers Insurance Companies Expand to Offer Workers’ Compensation Coverage in Texas

Summit, a specialty workers’ compensation provider and member of the Great American Insurance Group, has received all regulatory approvals from the Texas Department of Insurance for its affiliate companies Bridgefield Casualty Insurance Company and Bridgefield Employers Insurance Company to offer workers’ compensation coverage in the state of Texas. The companies will begin accepting submissions immediately.

The Bridgefield companies, both rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company, currently insure more than 21,000 businesses throughout the southeastern United States, representing more than $530 million in direct written premium.

“Summit has a long history of prudent underwriting, outstanding customer service and innovative claims handling. We believe that we are well-positioned to provide Texas employers with two new compelling workers’ comp program options. We’re pleased to serve this new market and are optimistic about the possibilities that lie ahead,” said Summit President and CEO Carol Sipe.

In 2010, Summit led the expansion of Retailers Casualty Insurance Company, a stock insurance company managed by Summit, into Texas. Retailers Casualty is a monoline workers’ compensation insurance provider celebrating 35 years in business. For all 35 years, Summit has provided the underwriting, policy administration, claims management and loss control services to its policyholders.

“Our Bridgefield expansions should help strengthen relationships with Texas agencies that we’ve been working with over the past five years. We also envision opportunities throughout our existing footprint for agents who have Texas exposures,” said Hank Chiles, vice president of Summit’s Southwest Region.

Summit currently has claims and marketing personnel in Texas and plans to significantly increase staffing in the state.

“This expansion is a testament to the growth and success of our company since its founding in 1977,” said Ms. Sipe. “Our goal is always to ensure that Summit customers feel confident about their choice because we make their workers’ comp experiences better.”
