Comments from policyholders of Summit-managed workers’ compensation programs
Edward Smith, President, Rolling in Dough Cookie Company:
"The thing that really impresses me about Summit is that when I call,
the people never seem rushed. Not too long ago, we had a complicated
claim. This was all new to us; we hadn't had any big claims before. Our
adjustor always took her time and fully explained everything. There was
never a time that I felt I was imposing on her. She made the comment to
me: 'I'll keep you well informed of what’s going on.' And, in fact, she did
just that. She would call me and give me updates exactly the way she
said she would. Unfortunately, in this day and age it doesn’t always happen
that way. People say, 'I'll call you on Monday,' and you don’t get a call.
If I call and leave a message at Summit, I always get a return call—usually
within the same day, sometimes the next day, but always within 24 hours.
I come away with the feeling that my questions are important. And that
is really nice.
"Every time our loss control consultant comes to one of my stores or to my
office, he doesn’t just say, 'Try this,' and I don't hear from him again. It's
really personalized service. He always takes time and does what he says he's
going to do. If he says he'll send literature on carpal tunnel syndrome, I get
it in the mail a couple of days later. It seems like he really wants to help. That
seems to be a philosophy of Summit's—their clients come first, and their clients
are important. You just don’t find that a lot anymore."
Royce Yates, Owner of Poor Richard’s Print Shop:
"We knew the Summit founders before they even started the company.
Our businesses have grown up together. Summit was not a big company in
1979—they were just some people that we knew, and we gave them our
business like they gave us theirs. They seemed to really be taking off, and the
concept of self-insurance through the Florida Retail Federation was attractive
to us. It seemed to be a wise business decision.
"Summit people are responsive and friendly. I can count on them for whatever I
need when it comes to our workers' compensation. Despite the fact that Summit
has become very large, they're still very easy to work with. They approach
workers' comp from a friendly standpoint and have been our chief source of
workplace safety education through the years."
Richard Lindgren, Manager of Finance, Florida Crushed Stone:
"Thanks to Summit's Loss Control and Claims Management services, we have
realized tremendous savings in premiums over the past 10 years. Loss Control
has effectively dealt with the prevention and anticipation of safety-related
problems, and Claims Management has aggressively dealt with problems when
they occurred.
"We have been very pleased with Summit's level of customer service. Other
companies we have dealt with in the past have not been responsive to our
needs. They basically told us what they would do and how they would do it,
without allowing any discussion or input from us. With Summit, we have always
had an open line of communication. Whenever there is a problem that needs
attention, they are always willing and able to assist us. It is very nice to have
access to the people and resources we need. And that has been true throughout
our relationship with Summit."
Robert E. Buckmaster, Attorney:
"I want to compliment [the Claims Center] and your adjustor for the way you
handled this claim. From start to finish [my employee] was treated fairly, her
claim was evaluated quickly and reasonably and closed out promptly."
Stephen D. Ervin, Fleetwing Corporation:
"[The adjustor] was very knowledgeable and firm in the manner in which she
negotiated the claim . . . I am pleased with the outcome of the mediation and
will request [this adjustor] in the event of any further mediation with other
employees."
Jo Anne Townsend, GA Food Services, Inc.:
"No matter how many cases she was working [the adjustor] has always been
patient with my questions, and she has always been willing to help. . . . She
is a true professional."
