Summit’s managed-care system is an efficient and effective program for providing injured workers with quality medical care, while helping to control medical costs.
The system uses an assigned medical-care coordinator—usually the treating physician—to manage the treatment of an injured worker. This coordinator determines which specialists the injured worker needs to visit for care of work-related injuries.
In Florida and Kentucky, the managed-care system utilizes prescreened medical provider networks to provide medical services for injured workers. Each network has literally thousands of approved doctors and facilities, including hospitals, walk-in clinics and specialists dedicated to reducing medical costs for treating work-related injuries.
Workers who feel that their medical treatment is not satisfactory are provided grievance procedures to help rectify the matter quickly.
